There’re a number of ways to get involved!

We begin by acknowledging the persistent inequalities, such as in language, media, and access to other resources, that marginalize communities of color. Certainly, they shape the stories and audiences on this site. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and alter the discrepancies created by access to digital media, the English-language, and other kinds of knowledge, in meaningful ways.

We cover topics related to colorism in everyday life and the media.

  • We are looking for pieces that go beyond sharing your personal journey and ask you to cast an introspective look at your insights about our culture, including media, pop, and consumer cultures.

  • The Colo(u)rism Project aims to center the voices of all girls and women and encourages people to speak for themselves.

  • We appreciate and encourage people to write their own stories and not speak on behalf of other individuals/communities.

  • The editing process would apply to trigger words, shaming, ableist language, religious, and offensive content.

Media-Making and
Art-Based Submissions

Other kinds of submissions – like a one-minute comedy skit, an artwork, or a poster. We will not monetize these. They will be published only on social media. Interviews, videos, artwork, and zines are also encouraged, along with others that explore related and overlapping issues like feminism and racism. Participants stand to resubmit their submissions in the event that TCP organizes another public event (virtual or bricks and mortar) such as Putting the U in Color here.

You will be responsible for your work, please make sure you are not making any copyright violations. TCP retains the discretion to not post works that do not reflect the vision and values or are controversial beyond the scope of our organizational capacity.
